Michelle Obama Portrait Photo Shoot | Charlotte Fine Art Photographer

I love a good photography challenge and in all of my photography sessions with Samantha, she challenges me to do a little something outside of my norm.

I always welcome the experience.

In 2018, Samantha came to me with the idea of recreating the President Barack Obama oil painting by Artist Kehinde Wiley. I was all for it!

When I saw the greenery surrounding former President Obama in the painting, I knew exactly where we needed to go to create this image—Hobby Lobby. It also helped that during the time we were looking to create this image in the store, there were lots of “Hobby Lobby Photo Challenges” going on, so there was no issue.

The store managers gave us the green light, and this is the image we created.

Barack Obama Inspired Portrait

Not too bad, right?!

This year, it was only fitting for us to recreate the First Lady Michelle Obama oil painting by Artist Amy Sherald.

This time, we headed to my studio.

Samantha did a great job of having a dress created that very closely matched the look of our former First Lady. It was gorgeous to photograph.

Once I was able to study the implied lighting of the painting and we were able to nail down the pose, we created this image and I absolutely love it!

Once we were happy with the portrait we created, we decided to have a little fun with the dress and capture some “free spirited” portraits.

Here are a few of my favorite images from this series.

Creating these photos was so much fun! So what do you think? Did we nail it?

xoxo,
